Sweater respects your privacy. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible while still giving you accurate, local weather and packing guidance.

What we collect

Location. Either your approximate location (with your permission) or a city you type in. Used only to fetch weather and nearby places for that spot.
Account details. If you sign in, your email and display name, plus your comfort profile, trips, favorites, and packing preferences.
Preferences. Things like units, language, and your chosen vibe are stored locally in your browser.
Cookies. See the Cookies section below for categories, purpose, and retention.

How we use it

To show local weather, suggest what to wear, save your trips and favorites across devices, and keep the app secure. We don't sell your data. We do not provide your account details, trips, packing lists, or comfort preferences to Google AdMob for advertising. The mobile-app advertising data described below is handled by Google's native advertising SDK.

Third-party services

We use a hosting and database provider to run Sweater and store your account data. To answer location and weather requests, we send only the location or city information each feature needs to these providers, which handle it under their own terms and privacy policies:

Google Maps Platform (reached through our hosting provider's Lovable connector) receives your device coordinates to look up your city, and city or place searches for nearby places. Google Privacy Policy.
Open-Meteo receives the coordinates or city name needed to return forecasts and city search results. Open-Meteo privacy information.
OpenStreetMap Nominatim may receive a city name you type when other city search is unavailable. OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.

Your choices

Revoke location permission in your browser or device settings at any time.
Change or withdraw cookie consent via Cookie preferences in Settings.
Request a copy of your account data by emailing us.
Delete your account in Settings, or request deletion without the app from our account deletion page.

Account deletion and retention

When your account is deleted — in the app or at your emailed request — we remove your sign-in record, profile and comfort preferences, trips and packing lists, trip share links, saved cozy places, trip reminders and weather-alert settings, the push-notification registrations for your devices along with their notification history, and any internal record linking your account to another account (for example, after a sign-in method change).

Some records are not removed by account deletion:

A log of emails we sent to your address, and your address on our unsubscribe and do-not-email lists, so we keep honoring those choices.
Preferences stored on your device (such as units and your last viewed city) stay until you clear the app's data or uninstall it.
Database backups kept by our hosting provider may contain your data until they are replaced on the provider's backup schedule.
Data held by services you used to sign in, such as Apple or Google, is governed by their own policies.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies. Optional categories are off by default and only activate after you opt in via the cookie banner or Cookie preferences in Settings. Your choice is remembered for 180 days.

Strictly necessary. Required for the app to function — sign-in session, security (CSRF/CAPTCHA), and remembering your cookie choice itself. Cannot be turned off.
Analytics. Off by default. Helps us understand anonymous, aggregated usage (e.g. which screens are used) so we can improve the app. No advertising profiles.
Marketing. Off by default. Not currently used; reserved in case we ever add opt-in marketing features.

You can change or withdraw consent any time via Cookie preferences in Settings. Clearing your browser's site data will also reset your choice.

Sweater mobile apps

The iPhone, iPad, and Android apps may show one clearly labeled Google AdMob Native Advanced ad below Cozy Places. The website does not show that ad. Google may process information such as device and app identifiers, IP address, and ad interactions to deliver, protect, and measure ads. Sweater uses Google's consent system to present ad privacy choices where required and checks that ads may be requested before loading one. The iPhone and iPad app may ask for your permission to use the advertising identifier (IDFA) for more relevant ads and ad measurement across apps and websites. If you decline, the app can still show ads without sending your IDFA in ad requests. The apps do not insert advertising scripts into their web content. The app also stores your sign-in session, security tokens, and your preferences such as units, language, and chosen city on your device.

Location is requested only when you choose to use it. When you do, your device's coordinates are sent to Sweater's server, which uses them to look up your city and fetch your weather through the providers listed above. Weather requests and results may be held temporarily in server memory and are not saved to your account. Your chosen city and its coordinates are also remembered on your device so the app can reopen to the same place. If you decline, the app remains fully usable through manual city search and will not ask again.
